OUR STORY
The name Ticum, also known as Xcum, means “the place of the Mayan god of the wind.” Long before becoming a destination, this land was already rich in meaning, spirituality, and history.
Hacienda Santa Cruz Ticum was established in 1891 as a henequen estate during the era when Yucatán was connected to the world through the production of natural fibers used in ships across the globe. In its early years, the hacienda was not only a center of industry, but also of community life. Traditions such as the Feast of the Holy Cross on May 3rd were celebrated with the families of the workers, preserving a strong sense of unity, faith, and belonging.
In 1940, the hacienda was expropriated as part of Mexico’s agrarian reform, and over time it fell into silence. For decades, Santa Cruz Ticum stood in quiet ruin. Yet its spirit never disappeared. Women from the nearby village of Ekmul continued to visit the site each year to honor the Holy Cross, venerating Christ in his living and resurrected form, and keeping the sacred traditions of the hacienda alive.
The revival of Hacienda Ticum began in 2010, with a careful reconstruction that honored its original character and architectural soul. In 2014, it reopened its doors as a restaurant and five-star hotel. A new chapter was written in 2020, when the property was acquired by the Figueroa Gasque family of Mérida, Yucatán, whose deep roots in the region and respect for its heritage guided the hacienda to its fullest expression.
Under the stewardship of the Figueroa Gasque family, Hacienda Ticum was restored not only as a place of beauty, but as a living legacy—where history, tradition, and hospitality coexist in harmony.
Today, Hotel Hacienda Ticum stands once again as an architectural jewel in the history of Yucatán. Here, the presence of the Mayan god of the wind and the enduring symbol of the Holy Cross remain, offering visitors a profound sense of peace, authenticity, and timeless hospitality.
